Lecrae - Check In (to Rehab)

There are and have been many things in my life that have controlled me. Freedom in Christ is freedom to know that Christ is the only thing I should desire. This doesn't mean I don't struggle or even stumble at times, but it does mean that there's a change in my heart...

This song is a quick intro to the CD called "Rehab" and describes where I have lived for far too long... but as the end of the verse concludes, "I'm ready for rehab, just do what you goin' do."

Disciple - Remedy

The first time I heard this song on the radio, I instantly knew I wanted to buy it. It describes what I have done for a long time by covering up problems in my own life. Rather than holding on to those, I am letting go and holding on to Christ. It resonates with my heart and soul greatly, and I hope it can resonate with yours too:

Lyrics (copied from here):

Lyrics :
[Verse 1]
I see the world in black and gray
Broken dreams of a runaway
Escape the world to medicate
Symptoms gone but disease remains

[Pre-chorus]
If the vision dies will it ever breathe again

[Chorus]
Oh, I've got to let go of the illusion
This is the end of me, You are my remedy
Oh, it's taking its toll - this pollution
This is the end of me, You are my remedy
Where you stop is where you'll start again

[Verse 2]
I hold the weight of sorrow deep
Wide awake but my mind's asleep
Familiar needle scratches on my skin
Like a record warped with ill content

[Bridge]
I've got to let go of all of this
It's the end of me, my remedy

Shane & Shane - Acres of Hope

I had typed up this post a while back, and though the reason for posting it now is slightly different than it would have been originally, it's amazing how Jesus, our Lord, is our lover.
The scriptural inspiration for this song comes from Hosea 2:14-16:

“Lord, sustain me in the valley. Give me ears to hear Your sweet tender voice and lead me in to acres of hope in this dry and weary land.”
"Therefore I am now going to allure her; I will lead her into the desert and speak tenderly to her. There I will give her back her vineyards, and will make the Valley of Achor a door of hope. There she will sing as in the days of her youth, as in the day she came up out of Egypt. ‘In that day,’ declares the LORD,’you will call me 'my husband'; you will no longer call me 'my master. (Hosea 2:14-16)

It reminds us to rest in the knowledge that God will be our husband (Isaiah 54:5) and take that wherever we go, however we choose to run away and pursue other things, He will always welcome us back. That is the message of Hope we preach in Christ- and that we get to spend an eternity with Him.

(Lyrics from http://www.shanebweb.com/lyrics/acresofhope.html)

He will allure her
He will pursue her
And call her out
To wilderness with flowers in His hand
She is responding
Beat up and hurting
Deserving death
But offerings of life are found instead

She will sing
She will sing
Oh, to You
She will sing as in the days of youth
As You lead her away
To valleys low
To acres of hope
Acres of hope

Here in the valley
Walk close beside me
Don’t look back
For love is growing vineyards up ahead
You have called me master
And though you’re in the dark here
Call me friend
And call me lover and marry me for good

She will sing
She will sing
Oh, to You
She will sing as in the days of youth
As You lead her away
To valleys low
To acres of hope
Acres of hope

How the story ends is
Love and tenderness in Him
Not safe, but worth it
So the valley’s up ahead
Or the ones we live
We’ll sing together
We’ll sing together

We will sing
We will sing
Oh, to You
We will sing as in the days of youth
As You lead us away
To valleys low
To acres of hope
Acres of hope

TobyMac - Hey Devil

Just a funky song about what who we have overcome.

She dialed him about 6:00 pm
She checked her hair in the mirror
And she stepped through the door like this
Three flights down
And shes out on the streets
Walking brick sidewalks lined in grey concrete

He saw her coming from a few blocks away
Red scarf in the wind as it started to rain a bit
Shuffled down the boulevard
Cut me like a deck of cards
I thought you had me
You thought that you had me

But hey, Devil, go on
Get your junk out of here
I dont need you
I dont need you
Hey, Devil, go on
Get your junk out of here
I dont need you
So move on

I stepped to it like I knew what I was doing

Im a moth
Youre the flame
Never knew you'd be my ruin
In the blink of an eye
Element of surprise
Got my feet on the earth
But my face to the sky

Shuffled down the boulevard
Cut me like a deck of cards
I thought you had me
You thought you had me
Now the plot is thickening
Pushing deep under my skin
I thought you had me
You that that you had me

You're a beauty and A beast
You're the pressure never cease
You're the straight other side
And they say you never sleep

Toby Mac (feat. Beckah Shae)- Funky Jesus Music

Lyrics
Give me that Rock,
That hip, that rock
Give me that funky

Yo stick it in red
We got the cred
No need to say what's already been said
Don't need to please
When we got the proof
We be on our knees
When we raise the roof
'Cause we got the
"One pot" mix of flavor
We got the funky Jesus blazer
No equal
Diverse people
Come get it now
Won't be a sequel

Bridge:
None of that mumbo jumbo
Give me that hip hop funk soul
Give me that funky Jesus music
Give me that soulful gumbo

Chorus:
Give me that funky
Funky Jesus Music
Give me that hip, that rock, that funky soul
Give me that juicy flow
Give me that funky
Funky Jesus Music
Give me that hip, that rock, that funk and soul
And watch this party grow
Let's go

Look at them freaks, they fashion loud
Makin' that hotness, movin' that crowd
Bumpin' that junk with a life injection
Sweet to the ears like the candy section
is to the eyes
Feels so fly
Passion that just won't subside
We got this winner's ball
So check it out
Gonna' watch 'em fall

Chorus

Bridge

Chorus

We're goin' back
We're goin' way back

From coast to coast
This is the most
We got beats and rhymes
And aftershows
We got funky people on the highs and lows
MC's like we they call us pros
So, sure shot rockers take stock
of this
I'll play the post in the b-boy bliss
See, we bum rush with no discussion
A red hot show that freak production

Press Play- NY2LA

For a while I've been thinking about what a song for our generation would be like. What would be in it? What would the Christians in the new millennium use to distinguish themselves musically from others? This song is one of those songs that expresses that: The calling that through the power of Jesus Christ we can make a change, we can make a difference:

Lyrics:

New York to LA

Everybody get together
Let's work it out
Got the answer for this world
Let's make it count

Uh oh, uh oh
It's time to live it out
This crazy world we're livin' in
Is lookin' to us now

CHORUS
Oh, we all need love
A different kind of love
One that only comes from above
(X2)

Everybody dance
Everybody move
We can make a change
From New York to LA
(X2)

It's made up to you and me
So what's it gonna be
We can make a stand today
For love and unity

Uh oh, uh oh
I think the time has come
For us to make a difference
And live as one

Chorus

BRIDGE

Don't know you are
Don't know what you think
But you're going nowhere
if you stood in the sink
And we right on the brink
of breaking in here
Livin' the life that is
That seems so obscure
and we changing the world
and healing the hurt
and taking you there
with every word

And the signs on the minds
so yes we go in
Finale up
We at the big end

We are here on planet earth
To make a change
To stand for those who cannot

To never back down
But stand proud for God
The one and only true love

A different kind of love
A love that gives and forgives
Doesn't judge but extends a helping hand
A love that finds a need and fills it

A different kind of love
A love that shares hope, vision and dreams
A love that's not relevant, but revolutionary

Everybody dance
Everybody move
We can make a change
From New York to LA
(X4)

Beckah Shae- LIFE

Dance (Techno, trance, electronica) is my favorite overall genre. There's a plethora of non-Christian music out there to dance to, but just to introduce a couple of artists I'm going to post some links of artists, and we'll start with Beckah Shae's "Life":

Enjoy the rich life.

Lyrics:

Here I go, I’m on my way with my Love glasses on…
Here I go, I’m on my way
I see more clearly and I feel strong…

There’s got to be so much more to this life
My My My My heart is racin’ just to know what it is like
More than I could expect, anticipate or imagine
I’m willing to believe amazing things are still happenin’

I’m gonna live the rich LIFE (rich LIFE)
The full and blessed LIFE (blessed LIFE)
So if y’all know what I mean, put your hands up and declare with me
Love In Full Effect, Chaim!
I’m gonna live the good LIFE (good LIFE)
Beautiful and glorious LIFE (glorious LIFE)
So if y’all know what I mean, put your hands up and declare with me
Love In Full Effect, Chaim!

Here I go again on my mission to give it all (give it all, give give it all all)
Cause I’m aware that what I share will come back good measure
Pressed down, shaken together and runnin’ over

Life Life Life Life Is whatever I receive it to be
Why Why Why Why Not jump over doubt and dive into belief?
More than I could expect, anticipate or imagine
I’m willing to believe amazing things are still happenin’

I’m gonna live the rich LIFE (rich LIFE)
The full and blessed LIFE (blessed LIFE)
So if y’all know what I mean, put your hands up and declare with me
Love In Full Effect, Chaim!
I’m gonna live the good LIFE (good LIFE)
Beautiful and glorious LIFE (glorious LIFE)
So if y’all know what I mean, put your hands up and declare with me, yeah
Love In Full Effect, Chaim!

No eye has seen nor ear has heard…
My My My My faith is breathing only because, I I hear these words…
Exceeding and abundantly more than we could even ask or think (whoa)
Surpassing all human understanding I’ve been given this amazing peace
(this amazing peace)

I’m gonna live the rich LIFE (rich LIFE)
The full and blessed LIFE (blessed LIFE)
So if y’all know what I mean, put your hands up and declare with me
Love In Full Effect, Chaim!
I’m gonna live the good LIFE (good LIFE)
Beautiful and glorious LIFE (glorious LIFE)
So if y’all know what I mean, put your hands up and declare with me, yeah
Love In Full Effect, Chaim!

Purpose

So I've decided that most younger (age-wise) Christians don't have a constant source of good, Christ-exalting music they can worship wholeheartedly not just because of the lyrics but because of the sounds themselves that make them worship with all that they are.

Simple yet profound, I have the idea that much of the music that is passed off as "Christian" simply does not move the soul to exalt Jesus in a way that only a genre of music you personally prefer as a saint created with an individual personality by the Creator of the universe.

That is why I made this blog. The posts will be short- maybe even only one sentence and a video, some lyrics and a thought most of the time- but I want to make this a resource for those who long for more.
